Primarily a commuter town with many of its residents travelling to work in Edinburgh, Glasgow or Falkirk, Bo'ness has a long and interesting archaeological, architectural, historical and industrial heritage dating from before the bronze age.

Present-day attractions in the town include the Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway and the Birkhill Fireclay Mine. Kinneil House, built by the powerful Hamilton family in the 15th century, lies on the western edge of the town; in the grounds is a cottage where James Watt worked on his experimental steam engine. Bo'ness is also home to the recently refurbished Hippodrome Cinema, which is the oldest picture house in Scotland. The Hippodrome was built in 1912.

With open space, landscaping and new tree, hedge and shrub planting, the development includes areas of formal/informal play space with pathways linking to nearby amenities. It also boasts exceptional views looking north-east over the Firth of Forth and towards the Forth Rail Bridge, Forth Road Bridge and the new Queensferry Crossing Bridge.

Bo'ness has a single secondary school, Bo'ness Academy, and five primary schools: Kinneil, Deanburn, Bo'ness Public School, St Mary's, and the Grange School. Transport links

The nearest mainline train station is in Linlithgow, just 10 minutes’ drive away, which has very frequent services towards both Edinburgh and Stirling.

Bo’ness has regular bus connections with the neighbouring towns of Linlithgow, Grangemouth and Falkirk. The Bo’ness Community Bus also provides direct links between Bo’ness, Blackness and Edinburgh.

Edinburgh Airport is around 13 miles away.
